Nick - Bass Guitar

I've been playing bass guitar since about 15, and began playing in a band with some schoolmates shortly after, and played a bunch of gigs around the Reading area. That band ended when we all left the area for university. At uni I formed a three-piece punk rock band that never really got off the ground, only having a couple of gigs. On my return to Reading I joined Zangryus, and have been with them for over three years now.

I don't really consider myself as having 'influences' on bass, but I find myself playing lots of Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, and of course my favourite band Iron Maiden. I do however play guitar as well, Metallica being a strong 'influence' on that. I listen to lots of metal, and lots of other stuff (The Streets, The Eels, The Shins, Static-X, Amon Amarth, Bad Religion), but there is also plenty of stuff I hate (most of emo/screamo, current britpop/indie). My latest instrument that I muck around on is drums, and again Muse and Chili Peppers is quite fun to play on them.

I play a BC Rich Neck-Thru NJ Warlock with active pickups, tuned a whole step down from drop D (drop C unless you're picky) through a Bass Pod XT Live! into a Trace Elliot Combo. I fingerpick with the standard two fingers and also play slap/pop style but play about with other methods as well. My electric guitar is a BC Rich Assassin PX3T, through a Peavey Valveking 1x12, and my drums are Gretsch Blackhawk drums, Sabian Solar cymbals and a customised Pearl double-kick pedal.

My weakness is near total lack of music theory :P and my main strengths are technical control (getting each note sounding exactly right) and general playing ability. My favourite Zangryus songs to play are On The Wings Of Angels, Betrayal, Rapture and Give In To Me, and my favourite songs to listen to are pretty much all of them but in particular Rapture, Innocence, Hatred and probably all of The Ninth Circle.
