I've been playing bass guitar since about 15 (I'm 21 now), was in a light rock five piece called Fugue, formed at Reading School and throughout sixth form played several gigs in and around Reading, recorded an EP and later an album, then it ended as members left for uni. At Manchester uni I started playing guitar more seriously as well as bass, and started writing songs with a housemate, eventually playing two gigs as a three piece punk rock outfit (we covered a Violent Femmes track among others), but this never got very serious (we were called Plissken and had a song written about Kurt Russell), and I found myself searching for a serious-minded band, preferably metal, to join on my return to Reading. With what I still think is incredible luck, I found Zangryus via a band website and was very impressed with what I heard. I joined the band after pretty much as soon as I got back from university (and the Download festival), and as I write this, it has been exactly one month since I first turned up to a practice with them!
I don't really consider myself as having 'influences' on bass, but I find myself playing lots of Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, and of course my favourite band Iron Maiden. I do however play guitar now as well, Metallica being a strong 'influence' on that. I listen to lots of metal, and lots of other stuff (The Streets, The Eels, The Shins, Static-X, Amon Amarth, Bad Religion), but there is also plenty of stuff I hate (most of emo/screamo, current britpop/indie). I've recently acquired a drumkit and intend to learn how to play stuff on it, and one day hope to actually be able to sing a little too.
I play a BC Rich Neck-Thru NJ Warlock with active pickups, tuned a whole step down from drop D (drop C unless you're picky) through a Laney Richter RGB400 but this will soon be relegated to a 15" cab as I will soon be purchasing a Trace Elliot Combo. I am yet to use my Bass Pod XT Live! with Zangryus, but I'm sure I'll get round to it. Guitars and drums are all pretty basic practice stuff. I fingerpick with the standard two fingers but play about with other methods as well, slap/pop in particular.
